Many of us are related to social media either using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, What app etc. using phones or laptops updating statues, posting and sharing pictures, liking things and messages back and forth with friends. This is the place where we get updates about our friends even family in fact we pass our most of time on social media.

These social media has a very strong effect on our mental, social, economical and political lives. Especially during the time of Corona many people are addicted to the social media but many people are using social media in promoted their products and establishing their business. 

 Social Media Effect on our mental health

Social media has negative or positive effect on our mental health. Human beings are social creatures.The strength of our connections has a huge impact on or mental health and happiness. Now a days we depends too much on social media that what we see on it we believe and agree with that. Each of the social media has an importance on our lives but they cannot be replaced with the real world human connection. It require person to person contact that alleviate stress and make you feel happier and healthier and more positive. Actually the designed social media try to bring people together in fact that make people lonely and isolated and creates mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. If you are spending excessive time on social media and you are feeling sad, dissatisfy, frustrated or lonely then you have to rethink about your online habits and find some healthy balance.

Symptoms of social media on mental health

  • A person feel lonely and doesn't feel comfortable with his friends
  • Comparing yourself with others on social media
  • Being distracted at school or work
  •  No time for self reflection
  • A person get into risky behaviour in order to get likes or views
  • A person must suffer sleep problem

How to reduce effect of social media?

  1.  Reduce your online time 
  2.  You can use an app to show you how much time you have spent on social media
  3. You can turn off phone in different timings
  4. tablets and phones must not be allowed in bed
  5. You can disable social media notification apps
  6. Change your focus
  7. Try to spend more time with off line or real friend

A 2018 University of Pennsylvania study found that reducing social media use to 30 minutes a day resulted in a significant reduction in levels of anxiety, depression, loneliness, sleep problems, and FOMO. But you don’t need to cut back on your social media use that drastically to improve your mental health. The same study concluded that just being more mindful of your social media use can have beneficial results on your mood and focus.  

While 30 minutes a day may not be a realistic target for many of us, we can still benefit from reducing the amount of time we spend on social media. For most of us, that means reducing how much we use our smartphones.

In order to have good and healthy metal and physical health of your child in this time of isolation and social distancing social media can be a valuable tool to keep in touch with friends and loved ones but remember how it makes you feel. Always use reputable sources to believe or forward. Any unauthentic forward message can create panic for someone.
